Lighters Zippo and Ashtray

The vintage Zippo original lighter, and also ashtray portable has its origins in the 1930s at the Bradford Country Club in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The Zippo was born well before the classic lighter we know today.

Its difficult commercial start led the company into a constant decline for several years. The creative source of this invention came when the eponymous creator decided to create a windproof lighter system, with a much more refined and elegant design, like a Modern Gentleman.

The name Zippo comes from the word Zipper, emitted when opening this original vintage lighter, bringing a more modern and international note to it, the Zippo.

It would take 20 years and the early stages of the Vietnam War for the company to distribute Zippo lighters adapted to any situation and terrain to G.I. soldiers. The 80s were a breakthrough for the company, causing annual sales of over 200 million units.
